Bucolo 1954 Mod. O-Hole

This fantastic instrument was built in the 50's by Horace Bucolo. Bucolo was one of the many famous Sicilian luthiers to make his name in France (along with Busato, DiMauro, Catania, Anastasio, Oliveri, etc.) These luthiers shared an approach to instrument making which produced some of the most revered and coveted "Gypsy" guitars of all time. This Bucolo guitar was constructed using many of the signature techniques of the Sicilian school, including a mahogany neck, laminated mahogany back (unbraced) and sides. Solid spruce top with ritch ornimentated rosette. Rosewood fingerboard. 12 frets to the body. Short scale of 64,5 cm.About Bucolo and the luthiers of his timeDuring the 1930s, the guitar was played by popular jazz artists (like Django Reinhardt who took it to the highest level of esteem). This created a demand which was satisfied by new luthiers who came along with many instrument makers from Italy to Paris during the 20s. Most of them came from Catania, Sicily, a manufacturing center which furnished a lot of instruments for the popular music market in the old days. One of the first of those to open a workshop in Paris was Vincente Jacobacci, whose workmen were to become many of the luthiers of the future.These new arrivals were named Pappalardo, DiMauro, Amico, Anastasio, Busato, Bucolo, Castelluccia, Favino, Oliveri, Burgasssi, Martella, Grizzo, Rossito, Petilio, etc. They all built mandolins, banjos and guitars in large quantities.All those guys worked hard and produced very fairly priced instruments. Some of their sons, like Pappalardo, Favino, Anastasio and Castelluccia, still carry on their family enterprises today.
